We as designers are born from all different areas, and though we may not think about it these areas each serve us as a point of inspiration. Whether it’s in our style or in our work, we carry this inspiration with us. Our show is the last destination we will be congregating as designers in one class. It is not only a representation of the paths we ventured as creatives, but also marks the end of our journey as undergrads. From here on we will be dispersing onto our individual paths, discovering new points of growth and experience. We can’t tell you where we’ll end up, but we can tell you where we will be – another point of inspiration.

When I was a Junior in high school, I knew I needed an extra-circular to impress colleges. I wasn’t into sports and Journalism seemed boring. I didn’t know what I wanted to pursue, I was lost. So I took a chance and joined Yearbook. I’ll always remember this point in my life because it was the first time I started spending hours working in a creative team to make something bigger than ourselves. I discovered I could be creative as a career and through all my uncertainty, I finally knew where I wanted to be in the future. That moment of realization was the first step in my journey as a designer.

It's tough to decide on a singular point for my inspiration. Remembering where you come from is important to me. I do what I do for my family, who has encouraged me my entire journey, and my friends, who've pushed me to be better at all times. With those things in mind, my inspiration point is going to be my home.

My love for design began when I was a young kid viewing the Southern California surf culture that surrounded me. As I grew older and dug deeper into the lifestyle, I learned about surfing artists, illustrators, and designers that each had very unique styles. I quickly learned that surfing and art were synonymous. From then on I wanted my designs to be unique and always include something that I felt no one else can bring to the table.

I'd have to say that my point of inspiration comes from the local skatepark I grew up at. It's always served as a place for me to clear my head and strangely enough, find a lot of inspiration in my own work through the culture and lifestyle that surrounds skateboarding.

It’s hard to stay in one place for long periods of time, why wouldn’t you want to see the world. This is why it is hard to pick one exact point on the earth. Many places to me have special meanings that have made me into who I am today. Although I've always said you are where you're suppose to be, so my coordinate will be my current location 33°46'12.1"N 118°11'35.9" W because this is where I am supposed to be.

These past two years in the BFA program have consisted of deep growth and development for me as a designer. This growth only comes with hard work, and it’s really important for me to find moments in between the hustle to clear my head and freshen up my creative juices. Those moments were consistently found during sunsets at the beach across the way from my house. This spot turned into a space where I could be outside, breathe, think clearly, and refuel my brain with light, sounds and colors. A space where time stands still and I can find inspiration to keep creating and therefore, grow.

I feel a great sense of pride to say I was born and raised in East Los. I carry it like a badge of honor. I am the product of its hardworking and vibrant culture. East Los Angeles is where I learned to be independent, where I learned about struggle and Si Se Puede! Where I went to my first backyard gig, read my first zine, organized my first community art show, and where my parents built a life for my siblings and I. No matter where I am or where I may end up, East Los will always be the core of my inspiration and the foundation to my future.

I do not have a specific place that gives me the most inspiration. My inspiration comes from the people around me. I like to discuss design with my friends, family and professors. It is the people around who shaped me into the designer I am today. Long Beach State University is not only my current coordinate but also where everything begins.

I’ve always been fixed on being a designer and nothing else. That changed when I took a road trip to Humboldt where I was inspired by the place and the people I was with. On the way back, a conversation sparked a realization that design was not my end goal but my starting point.

My inspiration comes from the sacrifices my parent made so I could have a dream. Becoming a designer wasn’t always my dream, for years I was fascinated with the medical field, specifically forensic medicine. Even though my love for medicine diminished in high school, I discovered that both fields require lots of discipline and structure. As Massimo Vignelli once said, “There is no design without discipline. There is no discipline without intelligence.” Design is now more than my dream, its my reality, all thanks to my parents sacrifices.

They say home is where the heart is. In my case, it is where my inspiration lies. My best ideas have always come from experiences with my family. They have taught me about what works and does not work in design and advertising. My family pushed me to take my job at the print shop and turn it in to something I love, a career in design. They are not just my inspiration but also my drive. They have kept me going throughout all these years of school. They will continue to be my inspiration and drive as I move forward in my career.

It all started at Ocean View High school. At this point in my life I was learning a lot about my self. I moved out on my own at age 17. I got my first official job when I was 16 and I was heavily involved in school activities and sports. High school made me realize that I love being creative, energetic and active. I decided that the only way to live life is to be positive about as much as possible and help others more than myself. That is why this is my point of inspiration. Design to inspire and inspire to design.

I was born in Ukraine but raised in the bay area. It will always be my point of inspiration, and the place that I identify with. I chose San Francisco as my exact coordinates. Every time I visit, there is a new adventure waiting for me. My experiences in the bay area and everywhere I go influence my designs. As Paul Kantner from Jefferson Airplane put it, San Francisco is 49 square miles surrounded by reality.

I can be found going back and forth between graphic design and a golf course to find balance between the two passions in my life. I draw a lot of inspiration from the golfing world and everybody who has helped me achieve playing for LBSU and being accepted into the BFA program. However when I need a break and want to hit restart you can find me somewhere along Main Street at the Seal Beach Pier. Whether it's for a Sunday morning breakfast at the Hangout, cinnamon rolls at Sweet Jills or slipping into deep conversations while enjoying the view, I can count on this location for inspiration rooted in my surroundings and the locals. I thrive on working for others and using my work to help connect with each other and the world around us.

My current point of inspiration has to be my birth place, Guilin, where it holds my earliest memory about studying art with the artistic influence from my family. As my passion grows deeper and deeper about the art field and learning more about myself, I can see inpiration coming from anywhere and any culture around the world.

Other people may have just chosen a normal location, but this is my point of my beginning. It is the first location after traveling half way around the Earth. My first attempt at making my dream come true. I know that my dream become true only if I challenge myself and try harder. I believe that "Out of difficulties, grow miracles" — Jean de La Bruyère. This location will always remind me who I am and why I am a designer. Now that I have graduated from the BFA Graphic Design program in CSULB I know this is just another staring point.

After graduating high school, life had became overwhelming and unbearable. I would take evening walks late at night and look at the stars. The power and vastness of the universe made whatever you were going through seem insignificant in contrast. Evening walks around my local park became a routine as I navigated through higher education, shitty jobs, and bad relationships. It gave me time to clear my mind and left room in my head for creativity. I made a lot of important decisions here that shaped the person I am today.

The Bixby Bridge, located within California’s Central Coast, marks the entry point to Big Sur–a location which reminds me of spending time with family, disconnecting from technology, and practicing various forms of art and design. Throughout my life, I’ve experimented with many different types of artistic media, design tools, and craft techniques. The Central Coast of California is a unique location that allows me to hone my focus and draw inspiration from my surroundings, and is my favorite place to further explore these techniques. Big Sur, in particular, has a strong influence on my artistry, and helps me to cultivate energy, focus, and inspiration.
